MexiLove Tacos & Tequila will celebrate its official grand opening in Charlotte on Wednesday, September 16, with an 11 a.m. ribbon cutting at 8136 S. Tryon St. The restaurant’s already welcoming customers, with the upcoming celebration giving neighbors a chance to meet the business and explore its Mexican food and cocktail menu.

The Charlotte Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the ribbon-cutting event in the Steele Creek and Whitehall area. Admission is free and open to the public, with food and drinks available for guests. MexiLove’s own flyer adds an evening celebration to the schedule, including a DJ and specials tied to Mexican Independence Day.

For residents looking for a new Mexican restaurant on South Tryon, the menu extends well beyond tacos. Birria, sharing platters, seafood, fajitas, lunch combinations, and weekend brunch are all part of the offering, alongside margaritas and tequila cocktails.

An 11 a.m. Ribbon Cutting on September 16

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is the clearest time to put on the calendar. Both the Chamber listing and the restaurant’s grand-opening flyer identify 11 a.m. on September 16. The Chamber’s broader event window has conflicting start times of 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with both ending at 1 p.m. Guests planning to arrive before the ceremony should confirm the start time with the restaurant.

It’s an opportunity to visit the property, meet the team, and see the restaurant before making plans for lunch, dinner, or brunch. Free admission doesn’t mean all food and drinks are complimentary. The restaurant’s flyer lists specific food and drink offers for the day.

Grand Opening Specials

MexiLove’s flyer advertises a $25 gift card for each of the first 15 guests. The fine print says it’s valid on the next visit and available while supplies last. Guests interested in that offer should ask the restaurant about arrival timing and any additional conditions.

The September 16 promotion also includes discounts on Patria Enchiladas and Arroz con Pollo, plus $3 tacos excluding lengua and tripa. The advertised drink specials include a house margarita, a margarita flight, and a Paloma.

September 16 Offer Advertised Price or Discount
Patria Enchiladas$3 off
Arroz con Pollo$2 off
Tacos, excluding lengua and tripa$3 each
Flight to Mexico$17.99
House margarita$4.99
House tequila shot$3.00
Paloma$10.99

A live DJ is scheduled from 5–8 p.m., extending the celebration into the evening. The flyer promotes Mexican Independence Day throughout the day. Confirm special availability and restrictions with MexiLove before ordering. Alcohol service is for guests 21 and older.

What’s on the Menu at MexiLove

Tacos are a major part of the menu, with choices including pork belly and shrimp Tacos Gobernador. Single tacos can be ordered street style with cilantro and onions or with lettuce and cheese. Trompo de Pastor adds a larger presentation, while sharing platters give groups several dishes to try at the same table.

Birria has a dedicated section. Quesabirria combines grilled corn tortillas, cheese, and beef brisket with broth for dipping. Birria ramen, rolls, a burrito, and a sandwich give the same core filling several different treatments. We haven’t eaten here yet, so we’ll save our tasting recommendations for the review.

For a larger meal, the Molcajete includes chicken, steak, shrimp, chorizo, cactus, and queso fresco. The Seafood Volcano Fajita combines shrimp, mussels, squid, and octopus in a pineapple presentation. Mexican paella, seafood dishes, steaks, and vegetarian options widen the choices for diners who want something other than tacos.

Appetizers include bacon plantains, Mexican esquites, and pork belly ceviche. The latter uses crispy pork belly with lime, cilantro, onions, tomato, jalapeños, and avocado. The menu also includes soups, salads, and a children’s section, making it worth browsing before arriving with a group.

Inside MexiLove

The bar has counter seating, overhead televisions, and a colorful mural behind the bottles. Outside, there’s a covered patio with tables and ceiling fans. These photos offer a first look at the space before our upcoming food review.

Daily Lunch Specials

Lunch is listed from 11 a.m.–2 p.m., Monday through Sunday. The restaurant’s PDF menu includes a one-item lunch combination for $8.99 and a two-item combination for $11.99, both with two sides. Choices include a taco, burrito, enchilada, tamal, chile relleno, chalupa, or tostada, with the listed fillings.

The printed menu offers a useful starting point for budgeting, and its prices differ from some delivery listings. The examples below come from the restaurant’s PDF. They don’t include tax, drinks, upgrades, or delivery fees.

Lunch Menu Example PDF Menu Price
One-item lunch combination with two sides$8.99
Two-item lunch combination with two sides$11.99

Steak lunch fajita$11.99
Lunch Quesabirria, two with rice and beans$13.99

The lunch menu also includes the Mexi Love Bowl, quesadillas, chimichangas, and egg dishes. Its header notes a $2.50 surcharge after 2 p.m. Prices and availability can change, so check the current menu when placing an order.

Weekend Brunch From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MexiLove advertises brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. The brunch menu includes breakfast tacos and burritos, chilaquiles, omelets, chicken and waffles, and French toast. That creates a separate reason to visit on a weekend, beyond the grand-opening celebration.

For drinks, the restaurant promotes margaritas, mezcalitas, tequila cocktails, and brunch mimosas. Flight to Mexico is its frozen margarita flight, with flavors listed on the website including lime, mango, strawberry, passion fruit, guava, and piña colada. Ask which flavors and combinations are available during your visit.

A Closer Look at the Specialty Drinks

The photographed drink menu includes a Pineapple-Habanero Margarita, Liquid Marijuana, Diablo Enamorado, and Malibu Buckets. It’s a separate look at the bar’s offerings alongside the food menu above. Ask about current ingredients, sizes, and prices when ordering.

Dessert Choices

There’s also a dessert menu with flan, tres leches, fried ice cream, churro cake, and a volcano dessert. We haven’t tried them yet, but the menu gives diners a few options to consider after tacos, birria, or a larger meal.

Already Open Ahead of the Celebration

September 16 marks the official grand-opening celebration rather than a confirmed first day of service. MexiLove’s website says it’s now open on South Tryon, and the restaurant has an existing Uber Eats menu listing. Its weekend brunch announcement also predates the ribbon cutting.

The website says it’s setting up its own online pickup and delivery system and directs customers to call for orders. Third-party availability depends on the ordering service, delivery address, and time of day. Calling the restaurant is the most direct way to confirm pickup arrangements while its website ordering is in development.

Our MexiLove Review Is Coming After a Visit

We haven’t eaten at MexiLove yet, but we plan to visit soon. After trying the food and drinks, we’ll share our thoughts on their quality and taste, the atmosphere, and the staff’s friendliness on our Charlotte Restaurant Reviews page. For now, we wanted to get the word out about the new South Tryon restaurant and its September 16 celebration.
